The Lebanese cabinet is to meet on Friday after the ministers of different parties failed to reach an agreement on the policy statement earlier on Thursday at Baabda Presidential Palace.
After lengthy debate that last for six hours, the cabinet postpones the consultations on the policy statement to Friday.
Intensive consultation took place on Thursday between minister inside and outside the ministerial session.
Following the session, Information Minister Ramzi Jreige briefed reporters, saying that Prime Minister Tammam Salam has threatened to resing if no agreement on policy statement is reached.
“Given that the Cabinet did not reach an agreement on the policy statement, the prime minister expressed his desire to resign but the president and a number of ministers asked him to remain patient.”
Salam “responded to their request and said he would give ongoing contacts more time,” he added.
Jreige also quoted Salam as saying that the ministerial committee tasked with drafting the policy statement resolved “major obstacles” but was unable to come to an understanding on the resistance clause.
