Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nation, Bashar al-Jaafari, stressed that what is needed to solve the crisis in Syria is a genuine support for a Syrian national dialogue which protects the country from terrorism, violence and preserves its security and prosperity, state-run SANA news agency reported.
During a UN General Assembly's session to listen to UN envoy to Syria Lakhdar Braimi's briefing on Syria Friday, Jaafari said Syrian government is ready to discuss all items of the draft agenda proposed by Brahimi in Geneva starting by ending violence and combating terrorism.
Jaafari slammed Brahimi and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's comments at the session as they ignored terrorism in Syria at a time when all acknowledge to the existence of armed terrorist groups in Syria, some of which are classified in the UN Security Council's terrorism lists including the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and al-Qaeda.
He also criticized the absence of any word, hint or a sign within their comments about implications of Arab, regional and international interference in the crisis in Syria.
"In his briefing, Brahimi even doubted the word of the 'national reconciliation' which is a main part of the draft agenda he has proposed in Geneva in the fourth item and we agreed on it and on this particular item, although the experiment of the national reconciliation has succeeded everywhere in the world, so why it doesn't succeed in Syria," Jaafari added.
Syria's Envoy affirmed illegal and unfair unilateral economic sanctions imposed on Syria was the reason behind the catastrophic economic situation in Syria.
He went on to say since the beginning of the crisis, the Syrian government called for a Syrian political solution to what is going on in the country, moreover, it also responded to the Arab League's initiative as well as it positively dealt with all the political initiatives for solving the crisis in Syria peacefully, including the UN Initiatives.
Jaafari pointed out that Syria also warned against spread of terrorism, extremism and violence in Syria and the whole region.
"Saudi Arabia's issuance of legislations and laws on terrorism would not excuse it from responsibility of supporting, financing and sponsoring terrorists in Syria," he said, criticizing the world silence towards Qatar's role in spawning terrorism and extremism in Syria and the region.
The Syrian envoy added that Zionist Prime Minister's visit to the injured terrorists, including those linked to al-Qaeda, and treating them at Zionist hospitals in a blatant violation of the Disengagement Agreement of 1974 didn't even draw the attention of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations at the UN.
He held Turkey responsible for turning the Turkish-Syrian borders into centers and passages for thousands of foreign terrorists and mercenaries and smuggling shipments of weapons into Syria.
"The Syrian Arab Republic delegation to Geneva-II conference has seriously and professionally worked during the conference negotiations and after them, inspired by the national interests of Syria and its people.. our compass was the interests of our people, as well as it offered several initiatives and working papers in this regard, but Brahimi mentioned only one paper while we offered 4 papers which were rejected by the other side," he said.
Jaafari added that Syria's official delegation stressed the need for combating terrorism which is striking Syria and its people as a priority for any peaceful political solution on which the Syrians themselves have endorsed.
He went on to say that the other party is demanded to determine its stance towards the draft agenda proposed by Brahimi as well as it has to determine its stance towards terrorism which strikes Syria and towards the countries which support this terrorism.
The Syrian representative affirmed that Brahimi's briefing about the Syrian government stance is 'very subjective' when the latter had said that the delegation was only focusing on discussing counterterrorism and it didn't want to be actually engaged in the issue of the interim government.
"I repeatedly told Brahimi in Geneva and I stress in front of you that the Syrian Arab Republic's delegation is ready to discuss all items of the draft agenda proposed by Brahimi, starting from the end of violence and combating terrorism," he added.
The Syrian envoy asserted that the main and key point in Geneva Communiqué concentrates on launching a political process to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria under its leadership without foreign interference by any party.
He said that what is required today is not foreign dictates, threats or deforming the Syrian government's national stances or ignoring terrorism, but a genuine support to a national Syrian dialogue which protects the country from terrorism, violence and preserves its stability and prosperity.
Jaafari called on UN envoy to Syria to restrict his upcoming briefings on the content of his mission and to keep himself apart from Syria's internal affairs.
