A suicide bomber rammed a car packed with explosives into a police station in Hilla, south of Baghdad, killing 21 policemen on Thursday, the chief of the city's hospital said.
The attack also wounded 75 policemen, 30 of them seriously, the doctor said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The death toll was confirmed by a list posted inside Hilla's main hospital.
The explosion badly damaged the facade of the police station, while ambulances ferried the casualties to the hospital. Security forces cordoned off the blast site, prohibiting journalists from entering the area.
