Upon his return to Tehran, President Rouhani told reporters at the airport that in his visit to Afghanistan good interaction took place bilaterally, quadrilaterally and trilaterally among Farsi speaking states and the other eight countries attending the meeting.

Referring to the Iran-Pakistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan quadrilateral meeting, Rouhani explained that each of the presidents proposed their point of view, but the issue of fight against extremism and terrorism were the main issue in the meeting.

He continued that necessity of more cooperation in the field of fight against extremism and elimination of the inappropriate differences among countries of the region were among issues discussed in the meeting.

President Rouhani said that Pakistan’s President Mamnoon Hussein also underlined in the meeting that his government will do its utmost to release Iranian kidnapped border guards and will try to keep safe and secure borders of the two countries.

drugsPresident Rouhani added that he also discussed the issue of drugs with the Afghanistan president and added that the issue of addiction is a huge problem in the region and all countries of the region are worried about it.

A high-ranking Pakistani official said earlier her country will continue cooperation with Iran to locate the five Iranian border guards who were recently abducted and transferred to Pakistan.

“We are ready to help in locating these missing guards wherever they are. Our cooperation will continue as we have done in the past. This was also acknowledged by the Iranian officials,” Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said in a press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

“As both sides have repeatedly said, we have a very strong relationship and we would continue to work together with Iran to further strengthen it,” she said.
