US Occupation Troops Killed in Afghan Blast

Some US occupation soldiers were killed in a blast attack in southern Afghan city of Kandahar, along with an Afghan interpreter for the US military.

Some US occupation soldiers were killed in a blast attack in southern Afghan city of Kandahar, along with an Afghan interpreter for the US military, police said Monday.

Provisional police chief for Kandahar, Khan Mohammad Mujahid, could not specify exactly how many troops were killed in the attack on the customs office in the city.
But a spokesman for the occupation force in Afghanistan said he believed the number was "not high."

"The suicide attacker blew himself up inside the Kandahar customs compound which brought fatal casualties to US Army troops,” Mujahid told AFP news agency.
"An Afghan translator of the troops has been killed but we are not clear about the number of US soldiers killed."
Mujahid said the bodies of the casualties had been evacuated from the scene by US military helicopters.

A spokesman for the occupation force in Afghanistan, Major Michael Johnson, said there had been "a few casualties" but said that details were still being clarified.
"My understanding is that the numbers are not high," he added.
