The Lebanese army carried out on several raids on Monday in one of the internal markets in the northern city of Tripoli, along with infantry patrols in the area of al-Baraniyeh and the wheat market.

The military said in a communiqué that soldiers have managed to arrest the leader of the so-called "Baraniya axis", Ziad Aluki.

Al-Manar Website correspondent to Tripoli said that army units raided a site of Aluki near Mahmoud Bek mosque, and confiscated quantity of weapons from the "Qalaa" center, and seized weapons depot in the "Americans" region.

"As part of a security plan, army units arrested Ammar Ali Abdul Rahman, who is the head of armed groups in Jabal Mohsen-al-Rifa axis, and the person in charge of al-Baraniyeh hotspot, Jalal Hassan Hajji, the military statement said.

"The units also raided in Jabal Mohsen and Baraniyeh two arms depots containing large quantities of weapons, ammunition and military ordnance," it added.

"Army continues to promote procedures and pursuing other suspects to bring them to justice," the statement concluded.
