Top Iran Navy commander said on Sunday that Iran’s naval forces have successfully rescued an Indian oil tanker surrendered by pirates on the Red Sea, Iran’s state agency reported.
Deputy Operation Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Siavash Jarreh said that the Indian tanker, Jok Lok, was heading towards the Suez Canal through the Red Sea when it was attacked by armed pirates riding in speedboats.
Iran’s 30th fleet of warships rushed to help the Indian tanker as soon as the former received the tanker’s SOS message, said the deputy commander. He added that pirates were forced to retreat when they faced immediate reaction of the Iranian naval forces.
