Saudi Arabia’s king has dismissed Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khaled bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz over his alleged dispute with the crown prince.
According to Saudi Arabia’s official news agency, SPA, King Abdullah has named Prince Fahd bin Abdullah bin Mohammed to the post.
Prince Khaled's removal from office is the latest in a reshuffle of princes holding government posts in the kingdom.
Prince Khaled was appointed deputy defense minister in November 2011, a month after the death of his father, Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, who had served as defense minister for five decades.
Some reports say Prince Khaled expected to succeed his father, but his uncle Crown Prince Salman was appointed to the post. His removal is reportedly demanded by the crown prince.
His successor, Prince Fahd, has been commander of Saudi naval forces since 2002.
