Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met Thursday with Egypt's ambassador in Ramallah, Yasser Othman, who delivered a letter from the minister of foreign affairs.
In the letter, Nabil Al-Arabi called the reconciliation agreement signed in Cairo a "core step" to show that Palestinians were united to gain independence, the official Palestinian Authority news agency WAFA reported.
Al-Arabi said Palestinians were within their rights to make a declaration of independence because the Zionist entity was established in 1948 based on decision taken by the UN General Assembly in 1947.
Egypt intends to hold an international conference to address Palestinian aspirations, he added.
