Rouhani to Kuwait Emir: All Region Countries should Help in Preserving Security

Iran President Hasan Rouhani said there is no obstacle in the way of developing economic, cultural, and political ties between Iran and Kuwait

Iran President Hasan Rouhani said there is no obstacle in the way of developing economic, cultural, and political ties between Iran and Kuwait, Iran’s state agency reported.

President Rouhani, in a meeting with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, referred to historical, cultural and geographical commonalities between the two nations, saying that wisdom of both countriesˈ officials is very effective in close ties between Iran and Kuwait, according to a report published on the Presidential Office website.

He stressed that, undoubtedly, visit of Emir of Kuwait to Tehran is a turning point in deepening ties between the two brotherly and friendly states. Rouhani added there are many capacities in the way of economic relations between the two countries but, unfortunately, current economic ties level is not adequate.

Concerning tourism expansion between Iran and Kuwait, Rouhani said that necessary facilities should be prepared for people of both countries.

He continued that Iran and Kuwait have close and common views on regional and international political issues, adding that the Middle East region has been facing many problems in the past years, “but we are glad that today we are witnessing a relative stability in the countries of the region.” “Undoubtedly, stability and security in the region are the first conditions for development of relations and cooperation between countries of the region.”

President Rouhani called radicalism and violence among important elements of instability and existing security problems in the region and stressed that we have to fight radicalism and terrorism together and try to strengthen unity among Islamic nation.

Referring to existing problems in a number of countries of the region such as Syria and Iraq, Rouhani said that all countries of the region should help create tranquility and security in the region.

Rouhani, by referring to Iranˈs readiness to develop relations with members of Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) in direction of settling existing problems said that removing regional problems depends on cooperation between Iran and Iraq and their participation in decision making, because if we want more security in the Persian Gulf, all littoral states should stay with each other to achieve determined goals.

For his part, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah expressed pleasure with visiting Iran, saying the Kuwaiti government and people are keen to develop cooperation with Iran, adding that surely, this visit would have useful results for interests of both nations.

Underlining necessity of development and strengthening bilateral relations, especially in the field of economic cooperation, Emir of Kuwait said that it needs a clear programming and interaction of both countriesˈ officials and continued that he has come to Iran with high ranking officials, who all are eager to develop ties with Iran.

In the morning, the emir was welcomed at the airport by the Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The 2-day visit of the Emir of Kuwait is his first visit to Iran which is being done at the official invitation of President Rouhani. Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Commerce and Oil are accompanying Emir in this visit.
