Iraq’s local forces arrested the younger brother of the former Al-Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, media reports said on Monday.
The Iraqi tribal forces in Al-Zalwiyeh in Salahuddin province said that they arrested 10 militants of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), including the younger brother of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Arabic-language al-Watan news website reported.
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi whose real name was Ahmad Fadeel al-Nazal al-Khalayleh was born in October 1966. He was originally from Jordan and ran a paramilitary training camp in Afghanistan. He became known after going to Iraq and taking the responsibility for a series of bombings, beheadings and attacks during the Iraq War.
He formed al-Tawhid wal-Jihad in the 1990s, and led it until his death in June 2006. Zarqawi took responsibility, on several audio- and videotapes, for numerous acts of violence in Iraq, including suicide bombings and hostage executions.
In late 2004 he joined al-Qaeda, and pledged allegiance to Osama bin Laden. He was killed in a targeted killing in June 2006 near Baqubah.
