The summit of the world’s five emerging economies, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, known as BRICS, has opened in Fortaleza, Brazil.

The leaders are expected to discuss the situation in the world economy and their prospects for cooperation in trade, investment and financial areas, Yury Ushakov, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

The group will also talk international security problems – including the events in Syria, Middle East and Ukraine – and discuss their joint response to global threats and challenges.
