His passion to see his town Jaffa urged him to leave the “Return to Palestine” marches behind and secretly cross towards the land of his ancestors. Hassan Hijazi visited Jaffa, toured around the occupied lands, turned himself in
Hassan Hijazi, a 28 year old Palestinian living in Syria was able to accomplish his lifetime dream of seeing his homeland Jaffa in Palestine. With insistence and courage, the Palestinian refugee went far beyond the Syrian border villages on Nakba (Catastrophe) Day and fulfilled the desire his fervent spirit has been long craving for.
Before turning himself in, Hijazi told Israeli channel 10 that Jewish and French “peace activists” helped him reach his hometown.
For its part, the Israeli court in Tel Aviv stated that it will keep Hijazi in custody until next Thursday as he “poses danger to Israel’s security”, while the police will charge him for “illegally residing on Israeli lands”.
