The UN Security Council disappointed Palestinians after it was short of adopting a resolution against Israeli aggression and only expressed “serious concern” over the rising number of civilian fatalities in the Gaza Strip as the Zionist entity continued with its massacres in Gaza on Monday taking the Palestinian death toll above 500.

“The members of the Security Council call for an immediate cessation of hostilities,” said Rwandan ambassador Eugene Richard Gasana, whose country chairs the 15-member council.

The Council also urged respect for international humanitarian law including protection of civilians, Gasana said, noting, “The members of the Security Council emphasized the need to improve the humanitarian situation, including through humanitarian pauses.”

However, Palestinian envoy to the UN Riyad Mansour, meanwhile, said he was disappointed by the Security Council’s statement, saying, “We were hoping for the Security Council to adopt a resolution to condemn the aggression against our people.”

In a new massacre Monday morning, an Israeli fresh air strike killed a family of nine, including seven children, after a weekend of incessant shelling by land, sea and air sent thousands of terrified civilians fleeing their homes. A man was also killed in a strike on a motorbike.

The toll has risen to more than 505 Palestinians as the Israeli offensive entered its 14th day, medics said.

Gaza’s emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said many of the more than 150 Palestinians martyred on Sunday -- the bloodiest day of war in Gaza in years -- were women and children.
