They were trying to get close to the Constitutional Court set to rule later in the day on a challenge to the legality of the July 9 polls.

Subianto, a former general with close links to the country’s former dictator Suharto, has alleged massive fraud in the elections and filed a complaint at the court.

Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo was declared the winner of election with 53.15 percent of the vote, while Subianto received 46.85 percent.

Subianto’s coalition controls a majority of seats in the parliament, and Widodo might have trouble pushing his agenda.
