Iran announced that the confessions of individuals arrested on charges of spying for the CIA will soon be aired
Iran's intelligence minister says the confessions of individuals arrested on charges of spying for the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) will soon be shown.
On May 21, Iran's Intelligence Ministry announced 30 individual suspected of spying for the US were arrested and 42 CIA operatives were identified in connection with the network.
The network, which was set up by a considerable number of seasoned CIA operatives in several countries, attempted to trick citizens into spying for the agency under the guise of issuing visas, helping with permanent residency, and making job and study offers.
“Very soon part of the confessions of the arrested members of this network will be broadcast,” Fars news agency quoted Heidar Moslehi as saying on Wednesday.
Moslehi added that the dismantled network mainly targeted the nuclear energy field as well as sensitive oil and gas centers, noting that “one of their major objectives was sabotage.”
According to the Intelligence Ministry statement released on Saturday, the CIA operatives had gathered information from "universities and scientific research centers, and in the field of … aerospace, defense and biotechnology industries."
The spies had also gathered detailed information about the "oil and gas pipelines, telecommunication and electricity networks, airports and customs, the security of the banking and communication systems," by using "US embassies and consulates in several countries particularly "the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Malaysia."
