The head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun expressed on Wednesday appreciation for Syria's stances in support of Lebanon and its keenness on doing its best to consolidate its unity and stability.

Aoun’s stance came during a meeting that joined him on Wednesday afternoon with Syrian President Bashar Assad in the Syrian capital Damascus.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the meeting discussed the situation in Lebanon and the efforts to form a new government, as well as the latest developments in the Arab and regional arenas.

The meeting was attended by Energy Minister in the caretaker government in Lebanon Gebran Bassil.

MOALLEM: SYRIA BACKS LEBANESE STABILITY, UNITY
Meanwhile, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem said that stability in Lebanon requires the formation of a national-unity government that would include all the constituents of the Lebanese society.

Speaking during the reception of a Kuwait Journalists Association (KJA) visiting delegation, headed by its Director Ahmad Yousif Behbehani, Moallem expressed belief that Lebanon’s PM-Designate Najib Miqati was seeking to form a unity government.

He said Syria backs all initiatives to achieve national unity and stability in Lebanon, and stressed that the formation of the government has reached its final steps.

“When Miqati headed the Lebanese government in 2005 following the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, he proved to be centrist and moderate,” Moallem pointed out.

The Syrian top diplomat said that his country seeks to establish the best relations with Lebanon. He expressed hope the agreements signed with the head of the caretaker government Saad Hariri would start to be implemented soon.
