Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Lateef Daryan, held Eid Adha prayers at Mohammad Amine Mosque in Downtown Beirut on Saturday
Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Lateef Daryan, held Eid Adha prayers at Mohammad Amine Mosque in Downtown Beirut on Saturday, and said that Lebanon and Islam face a threat internally and externally and the only solution is reform.
Prime Minister Tammam Salam arrived to the Mosque along with the Mufti and Director General of Internal Security, General Ibrahim Basbous, in an official convoy. A host of political, diplomatic and religious figures were present during the speech Daryan gave.
The Mufti quoted the Quran, pointing to the numerous times faith was paralleled to education and good deeds. He sternly denounced takfiri movements as alien to the teachings of Prophet Mohammad and the message of Islam.
"We need reform in our institutions and the quality of our performance," said Daryan. "We need reform in our religious education, in religious centers, in judicial and charitable institutions. We need rehabilitation to our education and Fatwa."
Daryan warned that Islam is threatened from the inside out, and so is Lebanon.
