Hamas and Fatah have both emphasized the importance of executing all the reconciliation terms. They agreed on closing the file on political arrests between them.
In a meeting Sunday between Fatah’s Central Committee Member Nabil Sha’ath and Gaza’s Prime Minister Ismail Haniyah, both parts agreed on closing the file on political arrests between Fatah and Hamas.
Sha’ath assured that “the file on political arrests will be closed completely in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip”, adding that “the number of detainees has decreased and soon, this issue will be over for good”.
In a press conference he held after the meeting, Sha’ath emphasized that “Fatah has insisted on conducting joint efforts with the Hamas Movement and executing all the terms agreed on during the latest Palestinian reconciliation that took place in Cairo”.
On his part, Haniyah stressed “the importance of immediately initiating in building trust and easing tension, starting from the release of political detainees, ending security measures, and using a reconciliatory public speech”.
In a statement he issued, Haniyah assured his commitment to making this reconciliation succeed given its importance as a strategic choice and a national necessity.
He further called for “avoiding any recurrences or reiteration of previous scenarios that led to political and geographic divisions… this indicates the importance of preserving the national rights listed in the agreement”.
