The Turkish government will open a new refugee camp for thousands of fleeing Syrian Kurds in Turkey’s southeastern region.

The Turkish government will open a new refugee camp for thousands of fleeing Syrian Kurds in Turkey's southeastern region, a government official announced Friday.

"A camp for 20,000 people will be set up within two months in Suruc district," Suruc Sub-Governor Abdullah Ciftci told Turkish Anadolu Agency.

Ciftci added that the camp would ensure good living standards for the refugees.
Another refugee camp will open in the same area this Saturday, which has been established with the support of the Kurdish Regional Government.

“The camp will accommodate 260 families," Aydin Maruf, a member of the Iraqi parliament and the Iraqi Turkmen Front political party, said.

Militants of the so-called 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant' (ISIL) terrorist group currently controls large swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq.

It besieged the Syrian town of Kobani, also known as Ayn al-Arab, on the Turkish-Syrian border. An estimated 200,000 Syrian-Kurd refugees from the area have already fled into Turkey over the past three weeks.

The militant group is also blamed for making around 1.2 million Iraqis, including Turkmen, Arabs, Christians and Ezidis, refugees.
