Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called on Saturday for China to play a more active role in nuclear talks between Iran and P5+1 countries, according to Iran's official news agency, IRNA.

He made his comments at the fourth Istanbul Process Ministerial Summit in Beijing, where the presidents of Afghanistan and China were in attendance.

The summit's objectives were strengthening cooperation among member states and discussing the situation in Afghanistan.

"Tehran is very serious about finding a solution to the nuclear talks issue," Zarif said.

Zarif, in his meeting with Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi, said good decisions were made for promoting cooperation at the highest level between the two countries.

Yang also said Iran played a key role in rebuilding Afghanistan and strategic relations would develop more with Iran.

Talks between Iran and UN Security Council members dubbed the P5+1 -- comprised of the U.S., Britain, China, Russia, France and Germany -- have led to a deal calling for Tehran to scale back its nuclear activities in exchange for the easing of economic sanctions.

The deadline for the next round of talks between Iran and the P5+1 to stop Iran’s nuclear program is Nov. 24.

The easing of economic sanctions has enabled Iran to expand its oil market in Asian countries by almost one fifth within the last nine months.
