In Holy Karbala in Iraq, where Imam Hussein's holy shrine is located, millions of believers marked the occasion amid strict security measures.
In Iran, all provinces witnessed Ashoura ceremonies where crowds involving tens of millions of different segments of society flooded to streets.
Participants confirmed their commitment to Imam Hussein's approach and pointed to the goals of Imam Hussein's Revolution which stood against injustice and tyranny, calling for the victory of Islam and for facing the conspiracies being plotted against the Muslims and the oppressed.
In Afghanistan, Muslims commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (as) in the capital Kabul and several other Afghan cities. Mourning ceremonies have been held in mosques amid tight security measures.
Also, in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Pakistan, Muslims marked Ashoura, despite the terrorist attacks that targeted the ceremonies in the Saudi city of al-Ahsaa and the Nigerian town of Potiskum, claiming over 23 and 15 martyrs respectively.
