Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday that he would go ahead with his plan to resort to the United Nations Security Council and that he would not wait for the results of the Zionist snap election.

"There is nothing wrong with the Palestinian draft resolution, which calls for ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and establishing an independent Palestinian state in the light of a specific timetable," Abbas said during his participation in a celebration organized by the state-run Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission in Ramallah.

He said the Palestinian draft resolution, which is expected to be submitted to the Security Council for voting, was new in that it called for ending the Zionist occupation.

"We [the Palestinians] will continue to depend on aid so long as there is this occupation," Abbas said.

Abbas had previously set the end of last month as the submission date of the draft resolution, which calls for setting November 2016 as a deadline for the withdrawal of occupation troops from all Palestinian territories occupied in 1967.

Earlier this month, the leaders of the Zionist parliamentary blocs agreed to hold snap election on March 17 of next year. The decision was taken after the collapse of the government coalition formed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Abbas said he would take the occupation authorities to the International Criminal Court in case a majority of Security Council member states voted against the Palestinian draft resolution.

"If they want to take me down, I will take them along with me," Abbas said, referring to a recent lawsuit filed against him by a Zionist NGO before the International Criminal Court, accusing him of terrorism.

Peace talks between the Zionist and Palestinian negotiators collapsed in April of this year over the Zionist refusal to release a fourth group of Palestinian prisoners despite earlier pledges to do so.
