Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu stated during a meeting with the European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek that he will work on convincing at least 30 countries to vote against recognition of a Palestinian State in September.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assured Tuesday that his efforts will focus on convincing at least 30 countries to vote against the recognition of a Palestinian state on the territories of 1967 in September.
According to Zionist website Ynetnews, Netanyahu said in a meeting with the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek that “before we reach September, we have to push through an initiative to secure that 30 countries and more would say no to the unilateral recognition in the UN General Assembly”.
The Zionist PM added that this step “"would not create an opposing majority, but it will balance out the bid's potential support”, warning that if the Palestinians "get a taste of having their way, they will fall in love with it and will never agree to any compromise again”.
He further considered that "peace does not mean Israel forfeiting land, but rather Palestinians forfeiting the desire to destroy Israel”.
In contrast the European parliament president reiterated the EU’s interest to proceed in the “peace” talks, mainly due to what he referred to as the “Iranian threat”.
The Palestinian Authority has been seeking a diplomatic strategy to ensure UN recognition of a Palestinian State consisted of the lands occupied in 1967. This issue is set to be resolved in the General Assembly’s meeting in New York in September.
