Russian Foreign Minister Sergey LavrovThe Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the United States on Monday of destabilizing the strategic balance in the world.

"Today, there are number of factors that affect the strategic balance, including the unilateral actions of the US and allies, which destructively influenced it," Lavrov said during a non-proliferation conference held in Geneva, adding that "such steps undermine the prospects for "nuclear zero."

The Russian FM touched on the high-precision weapons, indicating that they have reached the level of mass weapons, and that the leading countries in this field will achieve noticeable military superiority, which runs the risk of upsetting the balance and instability.

Lavrov expressed concerns over the postponement of entry of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty into force, and called on all nuclear states to approve it, pointing out that Russia did so in 2000.

Regarding the non-strategic nuclear weapons, Sergey Lavrov highlighted that Russia has reduced its arsenal of such weapons by three-quarters, and moved all the bases to inside the territories, adding that his country had taken this unprecedented step at a time when the similar US arms are still deployed in Europe, which are capable of reaching the Russian territory.

Lavrov also pointed out that some non-nuclear NATO states are participating in the joint nuclear maneuvers and are trained on the use of nuclear weapons, as they implement NATO decisions of the last year's summit in Wales, while breaching of the basic rules of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty

The Russian diplomat meanwhile, hailed the findings of the nuclear talks with Iran.
