Egypt and Saudi Arabia are considering holding joint military maneuvers in the kingdom as the aggression on Yemen launched by US-Saudi coalition continued for the third week.

Egypt, Saudi maneuversThe office of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said late Tuesday that other Persian Gulf Arab countries would also participate. "It was decided to form a joint military committee to look into a large-scale strategic maneuver on Saudi territory," said the statement issued after Sisi met Saudi Defense Minister Prince Mohamed bin Salman.

It gave no further details, but a security official said such joint maneuvers were the "highest level of training exercises."

This came as Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Defense Prince arrived in Cairo where he met with Sisi and discussed enhancing military cooperation between Cairo and Riyadh.

It was agreed to form a joint military committee to discuss the implementation of a major strategic manoeuvre in the territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the participation of a joint Arab force which includes troops from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states,” it said.

Egypt reiterated that the “security of the Gulf region and the Red Sea” is a “red line” for Cairo.

Prince Mohammed’s Egyptian counterpart received him at Cairo airport before he made his way to meet with the country’s president, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
