Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, expressed regret over the spread of terrorism and extremism because of the destructive role of some countries, on top of which Saudi Arabia, highlighting that the purpose of the plots against Syria is fragmenting its unique structure to justify and facilitate the achievement of Israel’s goals.
In a statement during a UN high-level meeting on “Promoting Tolerance and Reconciliation, Fostering Peaceful, Inclusive Societies and Countering Violent Extremism” on Tuesday, al-Jaafari said that the churches and mosques of Syria will remain praying for peace and amity despite all the crimes that were committed by cross-border terrorists.
He highlighted that the purpose of the schemes against Syria is to destroy its unique structure and transform it into ethnical and sectarian entities to facilitate and justify Israel’s goals in occupying the entire Palestinian lands and prevent the Palestinians from establishing their independent country.
Al-Jaafari stressed that ethical, sectarian and religious disputes were never part of the culture of the peoples of the region, adding that the outbreak of terrorism and extremism is the result of some regimes’ destructive role, particularly the Saudi regime, in promoting the wahabi Takfiri mentality and working on spreading it through its educational system and some affiliate media outlets in addition to its cultural attache offices in UN member-states.
He said that the UN sessions on tolerance among religions and countering terrorism should be associated with deterring the Saudi regime from supporting terrorism and spreading barbaric mentality that has no links with any culture or religion.
He stressed that the Qatari policies in support of terrorism in Syria and Iraq have left deep wounds that will not heal easily, adding that the Syrians reserve their right to hold those- in Qatar and Turkey- who were involved in the bloodshed and the destruction of the infrastructure in Syria accountability in accordance with the related rules of the international law.
