A senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ali Akbar Velayati said that the Saudi Arabia set the region ablaze through its war on Yemen, stressing that Riyadh cannot put this fire out.
In an interview with Lebanese daily as-Safir, published on Tuesday, Velayate said that the Islamic Republic firmly stands besides Syria, Iraq and Hezbollah.
The events taking place in the region are unprecedented, Velayati said, noting that threats of federalization are plaguing the region.
Neither the Iranian stance, nor the American one have changed regarding these events, the top Iranian official stressed, as he was talking about the nuclear agreement between Iran and the world powers, especially Washington.
“Regardless the path of the nuclear agreement, we should not mix the issues,” he said as he dismissed claims about influence in the region.
The Iraqi government is the one who asked for Iran’s help in the face of terrorism, Velayati said, stressing: “We are firm in our support to Syria. And in Lebanon we have been backing Hezbollah for 30 years, it’s not new.”
“When we support Iraq, it is of our interest, because Iran’s interest lies within Iraq’s unity and stability.”
On the Saudi war on Yemen, Velyati stressed that Tehran did not want to consider Riyadh an enemy.
“We had advised them (Saudi regime) but they went on with their tyranny. The Saudi Kingdom has set the region on fire, but it cannot put this fire out,” Imam Ali Khamenei’s top adviser told as-Safir.
