Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif headed to Oman on Tuesday to hold talks with the Gulf states on regional developments, mainly on the US-Saudi aggression on Yemen.
A Yemeni delegation of Ansarullah powerful group had arrived in Muscat two days ago for holding talks and meetings with Iranian officials, led by FM Zarif who is expected to hold talks with senior Omani officials on developments in Yemen.
Zarif also signed an agreement between Iran and Oman on maritime demarcation in the Omani capital, after which he stressed that Tehran-Muscat maritime demarcation agreement will institutionalize bilateral relations.
The Iranian official expressed satisfaction over signing such a historical agreement with the southern Iranian neighbor.
The delimitation of the border between Tehran and Muscat is the first after Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Asked about Tehran-Muscat ties, Zarif said the today agreement will deepen and institutionalize bilateral relations and make the two have more serious cooperation.
"The today maritime agreement showed that Iran is willing to widen cooperation with its neighbors, those in the Persian Gulf region in particular," Zarif added.
According to the agreement, the longest sea border between Iran and Oman was delimited within 450 km.
The two reached the agreement after holding ten rounds of expert and technical talks on the issue.
Iranian foreign minister arrived in the Omani capital on a two-day visit this morning. He is to visit Kuwait City later.
