In an interview with El-khabar Algerian daily, Seif Al-Islam said that “we are in fact holding real negotiations with France and not with the rebels," clarifying that “Tripoli had received a clear message from Paris through a special envoy who met with the French president.”

“French President Nicolas Sarkozy bluntly told the Libyan delegate: We created the (rebels’) National Transitional Council and without France's backing, money and weapons, it would not exist," Seif Al-Islam alleged, adding that “Sarkozy made it clear that he, not the rebels, was Tripoli's interlocutor."

Gaddafi’s son further stated that “the French officially informed us that they wanted to set up a transitional government in Libya.”

“Sarkozy told a Libyan envoy: I have a list and those on it are the men of France," Seif Al-Islam indicated.

The military intervention started against Gaddafi’s forces on the 19th of March, after the UN Security Council issued resolution number 1973 which was initiated by Paris and London.

The French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe had said in Addis Ababa Sunday that “Paris would work with the African Union to find political solutions to the Libyan crisis,” insisting that “the ouster of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was a key point.”
