Salam: Wise Army Command Preserved Country despite Polarizations

Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam on Thursday indicated that the wise command of the Lebanese army had preserved the country despite ongoing political polarizations

SalamLebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam on Thursday indicated that the wise command of the Lebanese army had preserved the country despite ongoing political polarizations, adding that the government is seeking to gear up the military in order that it should protect borders.

"On the ground, the army knows well how to move and protect the nation. We are seeking to provide its requirements, especially in terms of armament, so that it protects borders. And we hope to improve the frequency of confrontation and to immunize national borders from the north to the south," he said.

Salam visited today the operation room at the Ministry of National Defense in Yarze, in presence of Minister of National Defense Samir Moqbel, Army Chief General Jean Qahwaji, Chief of Staff General Walid Salman, and units chiefs.

"We displayed the situation on the ground in Arsal and we listened to the security plans and the latest developments," the Prime Minister explained.

"Owing to the tremendous efforts, we managed to reach a certain degree of stability and security in the country," he added.

"The enemy we are facing has taken a military and terrorist form (...) we nipped strife in the bud and we eradicated strife pockets in the country. This is a huge accomplishment and we must carry in face of external dangers coming from our historic enemy, Israel," he went on to say.

He underlined that the most important confrontations today were taking place in Arsal, its outskirts, and along the eastern borders, highlighting the clear support by the government and the decision confirming the faculty and the capacity of the army in this confrontation.

On the military hostages, Salam maintained that efforts were being exerted in all means to bring them back to their home.
