Netanyahu is considering two candidates for the position of national security adviser, should Arad’s appointment to London be finalized

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given in to pressure by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman to appoint a permanent ambassador to the United Nations, accepting Lieberman's recommendation that Israel's ambassador to Britain, Ron Prosor, be named to the position.
 

The newspaper Israel Today, which reported the development on Sunday, neglected to mention that it had been Lieberman who demanded Prosor's appointment and instead presented the matter as though it had been Netanyahu's idea.

The Prime Minister's Office said that National Security Adviser Uzi Arad, who is expected to replace Prosor in London, has requested to leave his own current position as quickly as possible in order to take on his new task.

But the future of Arad's appointment is still unclear, as Lieberman has not yet expressed his consent on the matter and his bureau has refused to comment.

Netanyahu is considering two candidates for the position of national security adviser, should Arad's appointment to London be finalized: Major General (res.) Yaakov Amidror, who is considered a close associate of the prime minister, and Major General (res.) Meir Khalifi, who served as Netanyahu's military secretary until last year.
