Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met with the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Tehran on Thursday, amid parallel diplomatic efforts in Vienna aimed at reaching a final deal on the Iranian nuclear issue.
Yukiya Amano has traveled to Tehran for talks with senior Iranian officials over ongoing cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the UN nuclear watchdog.
Amano’s visit to Tehran is also aimed at speeding up the resolution of all outstanding issues related to Iran’s nuclear activities, according to an IAEA statement issued on Wednesday.
The statement further said the IAEA chief’s trip comes in the context of the agency’s continued engagement with Tehran and the P5+1 states, which are working to reach a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear case.
Earlier in the day, Amano met Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani and discussed Tehran-IAEA cooperation.
