The Lebanese army stressed on Thursday that the military institution will not be dragged to confrontation with any Lebanese party.
“With respect to the latest political disputes in the country, which coincide with popular protests, the army’s command would like to stress that the military institution will not be dragged to any confrontation with any party,” the army said in a statement.
The statement added that the army is tasked with protecting the constitutional institutions, private and public properties, citizens' safety, and the right to expression, in accordance with the enforced laws.
The statement comes shortly after hundreds of Free Patriotic Movement supporters marched toward the Grand Serail in protest against the Lebanese government’s mechanism of taking decisions in light of the presidential vacuum.
