PKK Opens Fire on Minibus in Northeastern Turkey

Militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) opened fire on a minibus on Sunday during a clash with Turkish police in Gole town in Ardahan province.

Turkey: PKKMilitants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) opened fire on a minibus on Sunday during a clash with Turkish police in Gole town in Ardahan province, claiming the life of one civilian and injuring two others.

A statement issued by the Ardahan governor's office stated that council municipality employees were sent to the town's forestland on July 9 to look into the issue of a water shortage at the water reservoirs. PKK representatives claimed that rather than fixing the damage, it was council employees who deliberately sabotaged the reservoir.

The statement also said that Turkish began  investigation, but on Sunday, PKK militants opened fire on the soldiers as the gendarmerie's investigation was continuing.

During the exchange, a minibus carrying four civilians also hit by PKK gunfire, killing a civilian and injuring two others. The statement did not clarify as to how and why was near the clash.
