Lebanese Prime Minster Najib Miqati voiced on Tuesday his government’s willingness to boost cooperation with Iran, saying that the agreements signed with Tehran would be finalized soon.
As Miqati received a delegation of Iranian lawmakers in Beirut, he said: “The Lebanese government is ready to cooperate with Iran in all fields”.
Miqati also insisted that a joint Iranian-Lebanese committee jointly chaired by Iran's Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi and Lebanon's prime minister needs to continue its activities at the current rate.
“Twenty-six executive agreements between the two countries [inked] during the former [Lebanese] government will be soon discussed in a cabinet meeting and, after study, will be finalized,” the PM said further.
The Iranian delegation was headed by the Iran's Deputy Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Reza Bahonar, who hailed the formation of a new unity government.
“Iran, despite all US pressures and sanctions, has achieved self-sufficiency in modern technology and is ready to provide Lebanon with its experience in technical and economic fields and assist Lebanon [to develop its] oil and gas industries,” Bahonar said during the meeting.
