Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian received Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, as he assured Tehran’s firm support to the Syrian government and people.
The Iranian diplomat described talks with Moallem as “positive and constructive,” affirming that Iran “defends and strongly supports its allies as well as it goes ahead with its policy which backs the Syrian government and people,” SANA reported.
As he stressed that the only solution to the Syrian crisis is political, Abdollahian said that “those who were seeking to change regime in Syria reached to an outcome that they were mistaken.”
The Iranian official hailed Syria’s resistance against terrorism as great, saying that Syria’s combating terrorism prevented the terrorists from achieving any success in the region or expanding the map of their terrorism.
“Anything relevant to the Iranian initiative concerning crisis in Syria will be discussed and coordinated with the Syrian officials,” Abdollahian said, affirming that this initiative will bring good to Syria and reflect the opinion of the Syrian people.
For his part, al-Moallem said that the two sides discussed issues of mutual concern, noting that the viewpoints were identical on the topics discussed.
He stressed meanwhile, that “any upcoming initiative (to solve the Syrian crisis) will be done in coordination with the Syrian leadership and officials.”
