Two people have been killed in fresh clashes between Turkish police and Kurdish rebel supporters in the restive Kurdish-majority southeast, the local mayor said on Friday.

At least 10 people were also injured in the shooting that erupted overnight in the Silopi district of Sirnak near the border with Iraq and Syria, Silopi mayor Seyfettin Aydemir told AFP.

Turkish policemenTwo Kurds, one of them a teenager, died of gunshot wounds in hospital, Aydemir said, adding that the two of the injured were police officers.

Last month 32 people were killed in an ISIL suicide bombing. The attack sparked clashes between the security forces and Kurds who accuse the government of aiding and not taking enough measures to stop the Takfiri terrorists.

Ankara then launched a two-pronged offensive to bomb ISIL(Islamic State in Iraq and Levant) militants in Syria and Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) rebels in northern Iraq.

So far, the operation has focused largely on the Kurdish rebels.
