The Lebanese Army Monday said it has arrested a man suspected of plotting terrorist acts and recruiting would-be suicide bombers, three of whom were also detained.
In an online statement, the Army said Abdelrahman Tarek al-Kilany was arrested as soon as he entered Lebanon over involvement in recruiting the militants. It said he recruited the militants during a period when he was living outside the country.
The suspect, whose nationality was not mentioned, allegedly confessed during interrogations to belonging to the organization led by notorious militants Shadi Mawlawi and Osama Mansour. Mansour was shot dead earlier this year by police in Tripoli.
Kilany also confessed to taking part in assaults against the Army in Tripoli, the statement added.
When abroad, Kilany was ordered by Mawlawi and suspected militant Bilal Badr to recruit young suicide bombers. He admitted to recruiting three Lebanese nationals to carry out attacks.
Those three, who are also in custody, told interrogators they were involved in plots to attack Army and Internal Security Forces positions.
