Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and Swiss Deputy Foreign Minister Yves Rossier in a meeting in Bern on Saturday underlined the need for a political solution to the Yemen crisis and dispatch of humanitarian aid to the war-stricken country, Fars news agency reported.
During the meeting in the Swiss capital, the two sides discussed the latest situation in Yemen, and called on the international bodies to help put an end to the Saudi-led aggression on Yemen.
They Iranian and Swiss deputy foreign ministers also called for collective efforts to prevent the outbreak of a human tragedy in Yemen.
Further in the meeting, the two senior diplomats discussed other developments in the region, where Amir Abdollahian and Rossier both urged the need for the election of a new president in Lebanon.
On Friday, Amir Abdollahian in a meeting with senior Swiss officials in Bern underlined the need for a halt in the Saudi-led aggressions against Yemen and putting an end to the human tragedy in the Arab country.
"The Riyadh government should stop its airstrikes on the Yemeni cities in order to prevent further suffering of the Yemeni people," Amir Abdollahian said.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister warned that Riyadh's policy in Yemen will backfire soon.
Last Saturday, Amir Abdollahian and UN special envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed voiced concern over the ongoing bloodshed in Yemen, and called for the reinvigoration of international efforts to put an immediate end to the nearly five-month conflict in the Muslim country.
In a phone conversation with the UN envoy, Amir Abdollahian said all sides should focus on finding a political solution to the conflict in Yemen, stressing that the use of force would certainly fail to resolve the crisis.
The Iranian diplomat emphasized the need for an immediate end to the Saudi regime’s attacks and humanitarian blockade against Yemen.
Ahmed, for his part, hailed Iran’s efforts to help settle the Yemeni conflict, voicing optimism that Yemeni factions would agree on a political solution in the near future.
An agreement has been drafted, and the Yemeni groups are expected to offer their views on the text in the coming days, he said.
