Ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak would be tried in Cairo over his involvement in the killing of protesters during the popular uprising few months ago.
"It has been decided that the trial of ex-president Hosni Mubarak and his two sons Alaa and Gamal ... will be held in the building of the General Authority for Investment and the free trade areas in the Cairo Expo grounds”, the official news agency, MENA, quoted a justice ministry official as saying on Thursday.
His two sons, detained in a Cairo prison, will be tried at the same time.
It was not immediately clear if Mubarak's health condition would prevent him from attending in person.
The toppled President has been in hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh since April when he was first questioned by the authorities.
A source close to Mubarak said his poor health would prevent the 83-year-old moving from Sharm el-Sheikh to attend the August 3 Cairo session in person.
"His health condition will not allow him to attend the first session and his lawyer will present the court with documents proving that Mubarak is unable to attend", a source close to the president, who asked not to be identified, told Reuters.
However, health minister has said Mubarak is healthy enough to be moved to Cairo for his trial.
"Mubarak's health is in an appropriate condition to be tried in Cairo", Amr Hilmy told reporters.
MUBARAK CHARGES
Mubarak is charged with conspiring with former Interior Minister Habib al-Adli and some police officers in pre-meditated murder and attempting to kill peaceful demonstrators. If convicted, the crime could carry the death penalty.
He is also charged with "inciting" some officers to use live fire on protesters and to run them over with vehicles to help keep him in office. He is also accused of using his position to secure wealth and privileges for himself and others.
