Egypt soldierThe military said that the bomb went off as troops combed the border town neighboring the Palestinian Gaza Strip, and there were no army casualties.

The army announced on Monday it has launched an offensive against the Takfiri ISIL group’s affiliate. Since Monday, 134 militants were killed, the army said, adding that at least two soldiers were killed during the operation.

The military says it has killed more than 1,000 militants since 2013, but the figures are difficult to independently verify.

The army is struggling to quell a militant insurgency in the Sinai Peninsula that has killed hundreds of soldiers and policemen since 2013, when the army ousted president Mohammad Mursi.
