Iranian President Sheikh Hassan Rowhani stressed on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic has managed to practically end the unjust embargo imposed by major world powers, thanks to the guidance of the Supreme Leader.

Iranian President Sheikh Hassan Rowhani stressed on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic has managed to practically end the unjust embargo imposed by major world powers, thanks to efforts of the people and the armed forces, and the guidance of the Supreme Leader Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

Speaking to commanders of the Islamic Revolution Guardian Corps (IRGC), President Rouhani recalled late Imam Khomeini's statement that the highest duty is to protect Islamic Republic sovereignty which cannot be separated from the Islamic Revolution.

"Today, we may claim to have reached one hundred percent political independence, but in the fields of science and economy, although we reached independence yet we should take more steps," the president said.

He added that time when a foreign power could have taken decision for Iran has ended.

"We do not permit such situation to be repeated again, but independence has other dimensions as well. To be fully independent means that we can defend our rights and interests before the world."

"Being a real independent state means that we can be an effective player in our region and able to support our interests, our friends and other Muslim interests."

He derided the political group advocating the sanctions must remain in place, saying that the government does not need to reach settlement with the western governments.

Addressing the Saudi-US war on Yemen, Sheikh Rouhani underlined that his country will never remain indifferent to the massacre and pains of Muslims across the world, especially in Yemen.

"Can we remain silent and have a good dream while our Muslim brothers in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other Islamic territories in the North African region are being cruelly killed under enemies' plots? Is it possible for us?" Rouhani asked.

Rouhani warned that everything that the terrorists have done in the past few years have been to the benefit of the enemies of Islam and to the loss of Shiites.

Saudi Arabia has been striking Yemen for 174 days now to restore power to fugitive president Abed-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The Saudi-led aggression has so far killed at least 5,862 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children.

Despite Riyadh’s claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi warplanes are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.
