At least 55 Kurdish militants were killed when Turkish warplanes pounded camps belonging to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq overnight, security sources said on Saturday.
The jets took off from a base in Diyarbakir, in Turkey's southeast, and later returned without damage, the sources said.
In turn, the PKK conducted retaliatory attacks targeting Turkish soldiers and police, accusing Ankara of supporting ISIL.
