The German weekly Der Spiegel reported on Monday that the Mossad was behind the assassination of Iranian academic Darioush Rezaienejad on July 23.
In an article published on Monday entitled “Israel's Murderous Sabotage Strategy,” Der Spiegel quoted an unnamed Israeli intelligence source as saying that the move was the first act of the new head of the Mossad, Tamir Pardo and noted that the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists is part of Israel's sabotage strategy to stop or delay Iran's nuclear program.
According to the Der Spiegel article, the Mossad and Israel Air Force (IAF) are competing for both the privilege and the funding to attack the Iranian nuclear program.
Asked if Tel Aviv was involved in the assassination of the Iranian scholar, Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak said, “Israel is not responding."
