Military sources on Saturday said that the al-Nusra Front's positions in Jisr al-Shoghour in Idleb governorate and in Jabal al-Zawiya and Jabal al-Akrad in Lattakia province were pounded by the Russian fighter jets.
The military source in the Lattakia governorate said that the Russian Air Force struck a convoy of the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front terrorist group that was making its way from the militant-held city of Jisr al-Shughour towards the northeastern territory of the province.
Likely the convoy was meant to reinforce embattled comrades.
The sources further added that the Russian fighter jets took off from the Hmeimiyat airfields inside the Bassel Al-Assad International Airport this morning for their operations.
In addition to their airstrikes over Northeastern Lattakia and Northwestern Idleb, the Russian air force is also targeting the al-Qaeda controlled cities of Ma’arat Al-Nu’man, Kafr Nabl, Sarmeen, Ariha, and Saraqib in Idlib governorate.
The Russian military command recently stated that these airstrikes should last up to 4 months; however, they could be extended if the Russian military is unable to destroy the ISIL offensive capacity in both Syria and Iraq.
