Lebanon foiled on Monday one of the biggest Captagon smuggling operations in Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport.
National news agency reported that a gendarmerie inspection unit at the airport foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of Captagon pills to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
Smugglers attempted to illegally transport aboard a private plane boarding five Saudis around 40 bags of Fenethylline (Captagon pills) weighing about 2 tons.
Airport authorities are now conducting the necessary investigations, in coordination with the competent judicial authorities, to uncover the circumstances of this major incident which is the largest drug smuggling operation through Beirut airport.
