Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said there were grave threats facing peoples and governments of the whole region not only Syria
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said there were grave threats facing peoples and governments of the whole region not only Syria, ruling out that the new round of Syria talks in Vienna might come out with serious outcomes.
In an interview with As-Safir Newspaper on Saturday, Zarif said “friends do not realize the dangers that threaten our region especially that the Americans are not serious and objective as they still support the Zionist entity overtly.”
Zarif deplored that there were sides that foster terrorist groups and wondered who’s buying oil from “Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant” (ISIL) terrorist organization and arming Al-Nusra front, Ahrar al-Sham and other terrorist organizations.
Zarif emphasized that these sides have not seemingly realized yet that their terrorist organizations threaten them too.
“We are not looking for reasons to fight with the Americans, or with others, but all of the US policies toward the region pass through ‘Israel’. We do not want to fight so that some Arab brothers would take the conflict as a pretext to go to Camp David,” Zarif said, adding that Iran doesn’t expect a change in the US position.
Answering a question about his meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry which seemed positive and ‘friendly’, Zarif said “there is common understanding between me and Kerry on the tackled issues, but this will not change the US policy and I do not expect any contact with Washington at the current stage... In any case, let everyone not forget that we are part of this region and its security.”
Iranian president Sheikh Hassan Rouhani postponed his to Europe after attacks in Paris that he described as "crimes against humanity." Zarif, who had been due to travel with Rouhani, told state television he would now instead head Iran's delegation to international talks on the Syrian conflict in Vienna.
