Four prisoners in Roumieh Prision set their beds on fire, one died
The National News Agency reported on Sunday that four prisoners in Roumieh Prision set their beds on fire.
One of the detainees, identified as Mohammad Zouieter, 40, died shortly afterward from his injuries.
A security source said that an inmate from Roumieh prison set himself on fire around 10 a.m. Sunday. The source added that the prison guards, who were asleep from fasting at the time of the incident, sent him to the hospital about two hours later, where he died from the burns.
Zaytar was allegedly convicted two years ago for smuggling weapons, drugs and cars, as well as opening fire on Lebanese authorities.
A number of riots have broken out in the facility in the past months, with prisoners demanding a series of rights.
