Kuwaiti authorities have dismantled an international cell of the Takfiri group, ISIL (so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Levant), local media reported.

The Kuwaiti Interior Ministry said on Thursday that six people from different nationalities -- a Lebanese, an Egyptian, a Kuwaiti, and three Syrians -- were arrested, the official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.Kuwait Busts ISIL Multinational Terrorist Cell

The Lebanese citizen, identified as Osama Khayat, is said to be the ringleader.

He has confessed to recruiting militants for ISIL and raising money that was transferred to ISIL bank accounts in Turkey, KUNA said, adding that Khayat also supplied weapons via Turkey to top Takfiri militants operating in Syria.

One of the Syrian detainees was an arms dealer for Daesh while another was in charge of finances and communication, police said.

The ministry, meanwhile, added that two Syrians and two Australian-Lebanese nationals are still on the loose.

Earlier this year, a bomb explosion at a mosque in the capital, Kuwait City, left over two dozen people dead and more than 200 others injured. ISIL terrorists claimed responsibility for the attack.
